Natalie had an okay night last night. I have decided to sleep with her downstairs for a few nights until she is better with her pain through the night. We have temporarily moved her downstairs for the next few months. She still wakes up throughout the night prior to surgery and would walk down the stairs to our room. I am petrified she would slip on the stairs and that would end with an air flight back to Dallas more than likely.
She got up about 3 times last night with pain, but nothing to intense, just a lot of discomfort. This morning she actually asks for her pain med, which she hates to take, but it does work quickly.
She did some coloring this afternoon for a while. She loves all the coloring books and markers we have received.
Then, reality hit and I made her start some of the homework she has missed. I know, mean mom. She officially starts with the home school teacher on Tuesday, but she has also missed 2 weeks worth of school work. I wanted to start slowly a page or two a day throughout the weekend, so next week she is not completely overwhelmed.
I have had remind her multiple times today, that she had back surgery a week ago and she needs to be super careful so we do not break one of the screws off before they are set in the spine.
She still has pain off and on, but the pain meds are working. I typically wait to give her some of the pain meds until she asks, because of the hydrocodon. When she was a baby after her second open heart surgery, she had withdrawals from methadone. I never knew that could happen and a nurse helped us figure out what was going on. We had to put her back on it and then wean her over several weeks. So, I am a little over cautious when she gets out on narcotic types of pain meds. Therefore, I have only been giving it to her when she is in a lot of pain. The last few days, I have only given it to her twice, once in the am and once before bed. She also hates the test of it, so she does not really want it.
She did finally let me get some of the sticky off, of her wrists and neck from IVs. She still has a small rash on her neck from the IV tape, but it is getting better. Now, that she has been back on her aspirin for almost a week, a lot of bruising is starting to show up๐ณ. She has bruises all over her back, arms, foot and neck. We get to take her large bandage off on Friday! We are going to see our pediatrician for a check and I am thinking I might let her remove it, so I do not have to๐ฌ. I am excited to see if she has grown any since the surgery. Also, I had brieflynlwt the hospital when the doctor changed her bandage for the first time, so I am curious to see what it looks like and to see if we can see any of the hardware through her skin. There is slight possibility, because she is so petitie.
We want to thank you all again for the prayers, Facebook messages, texts, phones, emails and sweet gifts for Natalie. We have been so blessed by each of you! I truly believe she is doing so well right now, because prayer. It is crazy to think a week ago at this time, she was screaming and crying tears of pain. I have never seen her so that before and it was horrible. Her pain brought me to tears as it tore my heart open. Not being able to take her pain away immediately was gut wrenching.
