Today has been another good day! She has been up and walking a bit more. She still does not want me far away, intact, she held my hand this morning in bed while she went back to sleep so I would not get up.
I wanted to tell everyone how amazing Scottish Rite was! We ❤️Children’s Medical Center. Children’s is where Nat has had all 11 surgeries. They are our home away from home and where we feel most comfortable.
To be honest, the day we moved Hospitals, I was not a happy camper. I was hoping we would be at Children’s longer and even tried to talk the nurses into letting us stay one more day, but Dr Richards from Scottish Rite wanted us over there.
After one day, I realized, Scottish Rite was were we needed to be! The nursing staff was amazing. There is actually only 1 floor of inpatients in the entire hospital. The hospital is huge, so I was expecting something bigger, but having it being smaller was so nice.
Several doctors were at a conference this week, so there was not a lot of surgeries done, which meant not a lot of patients. I think there was actually only 15 patients including us. Several patients are there long term, like a month or two and some even longer.
There were a couple of boys that would wheel around and meet up in the library/school room and play card games or Xbox. If you ever watched the Red Band Society (it was only on for 2 seasons), Scottish Rite reminded me of that.
All the patients we talked to, had incredible outlooks and were all positive. It was like a little family.
Scottish Rite has a ton of Volunteers that help with arts and crafts and hand out snacks most nights. I wish Natalie felt like she does now, on Thursday or Friday, because I think she would have really enjoyed the Child Life Room, but they are closed over the weekend.
I feel so blessed to have been at 2 amazing hospitals and can now call both our “Home Away from Home”❤️.
Larry and I have talked about this multiple times throughout Natalie’s life, going to Children’s Heart Clinic or Scottish Rite Clinic, you realize that Natalie’s health could be way worse. We feel blessed that she is in 2nd Grade and doing for the most amazing. We thank God for caring us through the surgeries and trials of learning to live a new way and for continuing to make her so strong and brave! I do not think Natalie realizes how strong and brave she is. I pray one day, she knows how special she is💖
